| Welcome to 2014! |

Hi everyone,

Welcome to 2014!!!!! The past few weeks have just flown for me! How about you? I feel like I am still back in Christmas. How are we halfway through January ALREADY (seriously?!). Therefore, I thought a quick catchup was in order. They do say, a picture tells a thousand words :) so here is a pictorial overview of the last few weeks. Christmas, New Years Eve, and all that runs between.

  • The first few photographs capture the Christmas table this year. Abundant, enjoyable and very thankful for the special time with my family. Mr W's Gran was so kind to make my family a gorgeous Christmas Cake which served as our table centrepiece!
  • My brother and I made a giant jug of PIMMS cocktails with fruit.
  • I got a singing and dancing GIZMO from Mr W for Christmas love love love!
  • Ate too many Fruit Loops (childhood favourite) and played LEGO Lord of the Rings on PS2.
  • Fireworks in Adelaide on New Year's Eve.
  • Made Lemon Melting Moments Cookies.
  • Road trip to my parents for a week of fresh country air with Mr W. Travelled across the Murray River on a ferry. A delicious lunch at Renmark on the riverfront of the Murray River.
  • Visited a friends Apple Orchard for an afternoon of catchups with my high school girlfriends. So much fun reminiscing, sharing food, and laughing together!

| Birthday Week | Part 4 | SPINOFF FESTIVAL Adelaide | Food Adventures | Onyx Dessert Lounge |

Hi everyone,

Well and truly by now you would know it was my BIRTHDAY recently, and with that I wanted to share the fun I had! This is the FINAL Part 4I hope you have enjoyed a look into what I got up to for my birthday!

Mr W and I attended the SPINOFF FESTIVAL in Adelaide. What a wonderful present!

It was a HUGE day for us (especially me, the biggest newbie to festivals!) We got there at 3:30pm and it finished up around 11:30pm with Of Monsters & Men as the final act of the night. It was an amazing day!

Below, Of Monsters & Men all the way from Iceland to Adelaide, South Australia!

The aftermath of the dirty alcohol sodden and messy floor at Thebarton Theater. Snakadaktal, another band of young Australian singers that were some of my favourites of the festival! Their music is so chilled and ethereal. Mr W and I with an impressive shot taken in almost darkness :)

After being so indecisive about what to do for my birthday with friends this year, I finally decided upon a dessert lounge. There definitely is NO lack of choice for dessert bars in Adelaide of late.

I made a booking for 12 of my favourite people at Onyx Dessert Lounge in North Adelaide on O'Connell Street.

The lounges decor was relaxing, with pops of colour and subtle lighting. On the night Amy Whinehouse tunes filled the lounge, creating a chilled atmosphere for coffeecocktails and desserts

The menu's were presented on a nifty tablet that we passed around our group of 12 (it would have been to have a few more though) Apart from that, it was a fun, creative, and interactive talking point for all.

I ordered a latte that arrived in a unique gold cup, cube of brown sugar and tasty gooey centered chocolate included. Costing $5 I thought this was great!

Dessert time!

Chocolate Peanut Fondant with Salted Caramel Ice cream

mouth-watering and intense chocolate experience to say the very least. Almost half of our group chose this dessert, as it came highly recommended by our waiter.

My favourite aspects of the dessert were the crunchy roasted peanuts and salted caramel crumb that lay beneath the ice-cream. I highly recommned this dessert when visiting Onyx Dessert Lounge. Cost $17

The Espresso Martini is also worth trying if you're a coffee lover! Cost $18.

My initial reaction to realising it was nearing my birthday this year was something like this!

BUT..........

I can honestly say that my birthday this year was one of my most special in memory!
I am gradually coming to terms with getting another year older the wiser.

Putting any negativity aside now :) What do MOST love about Birthdays?

Thank you for hanging in there & sharing in my FINAL Birthday Week Part 4 post!

Take care,

| Autumn in Hahndorf |

Hi everyone,

A few weekends ago I ventured on a road trip with Mr W and his family to a sleepy town nestled in the Adelaide Hills named Hahndorf. We had organised a lunch date in Hanhndorf that day for Mr W's sister, who was celebrating her birthday.

Hahndorf is a beautiful little town with its pretty, tree-lined street, and is the oldest non-British settlement in South Australia. The main street is filled with restaurants, cafes, lolly shops, ice creameries, as well as other quirky places like the German Cake shop (which we visited) with walls covered with cuckoo clocks and painted plates. Unique & fascinating to discover, Hahndorf is the little gem of the Adelaide Hills.

Hahndorf is heavenly in autumn & winter. Crisp cool air and a surprisingly busy hustle & bustle comes to the town on the weekends with the influx of tourists and city escapees (like me). I always associate a cosy feeling when I visit Hahndorf in the cooler months. It's a time to put of your warm winter jacket, scarf, boots, and do some exploring.

Hahndorf's timeworn buildings tell the story of past to present

The Hahndorf Candle Barn had some of the most fragrant candles I have encountered to date. My favourite, was the 'Freshly Brewed Coffee' candle. Obviously.

The ever so quaint Hahndorf main street, perfect with autumn leaves

                                    Bunnies! Need I say more?

So many fudge varieties to choose from

Sweeties!
What are your favourites?

The German Cake Shop

Beautiful antiques from all over the world

Time for cake, German Apple Cake

Afternoon cappuccino pick me up, it was perfect!

High Tea Society

High Tea anyone?

It was my birthday a few weeks ago and I decided this was the perfect occasion for a High Tea! Well, honestly I would have found any occasion for it. I did a fair bit of research into High Tea venues in and around Adelaide, and after reading many a review I decided upon the Sunday High Tea at The Stamford Grand at Glenelg.

Yummy treats, beautiful friends and tea, yes please!

The views of the stormy and dark seafront from The Promenade Restaurants floor to ceiling windows were breathtaking with abundant natural light. The atmosphere was relaxed with quiet jazz music rhythmically playing under our chatterings. We were greeted promptly at reception and seated on a table for six I had reserved under one of their ornate chandeliers :)

Sparkly & pretty chandelier hanging overhead

First, we were offered the choice of tea or coffee. I opted for coffee first to help me recover from the previous nights antics. I later enjoyed two cups of tea also, I love tea obviously! After we had settled into our surrounds two beautifully and may I say tasty 3 tiered high tea stands made their spectacular entrance to the room and arrived at our table. I will let the mouthwatering pictures speak for themselves............

♥ Fresh Fruit Tartlets
♥ Belgian Chocolate Tears
♥ Raspberry & Lime Chiboust

Ohhhh me, oh my!

Bright & bursting with flavour!

♥ Fresh Baked Scones

They arrived still warm from the oven....mmmm....

♥ Apricot Jam / Raspberry Jam / Freshly Whipped Cream

♥ Salmon, Cream Cheese Dill & Watercress
♥ Ham, Corn Relish, Lettuce & Spinach
♥ Cucumber, Lettuce & Mayonnaise (Vegetarian)

My beautiful friend Matt who blogs at milkseeds mysteriously masked

Here are the important details you need to know :

  • What: Adelaide High Tea at Glenelg
  • Where: Stamford Grand Adelaide in The Promenande Restaurant
  • When: High Tea Weekdays 12 - 5pm / Weekends 12:30 - 2:30pm & 3 - 5pm
  • Availability: Bookings are essential & subject to availability
  • Price: 3 types of High Tea are available ranging from $25.50 - $39 per person

* High Teas are for a minimum of two people

My favourite from the High Tea was the Belgian Chocolate Tears - they tasted like deliciously chocolately clouds of mousse that melted in your mouth. The only frustration for the day was no separate billing, which is always annoying when you eat out with a group of friends. Apart from that minor issue The Promenade Restaurant provided a beautiful atmosphere for relaxed Sunday chats with friends and yummy treats to boot!

I loved my first High Tea experience at the Stamford Grand Adelaide and would most definitely do it again!

Have you had a favourite High Tea experience?

I would love to hear from you!

Take care,

It's my birthday! Another year the wiser.

Hi everyone,

Yesterday was my twenty-something-and-a-little-bit-more birthday!

"With mirth and laughter let old wrinkles come."
- William Shakespeare

I was up at the break of dawn on my birthday (very out of character for me, being the night owl that I am). I was savoring every moment of the beautifully sunny and blue sky day we were having. I also ordered a sneaky little beauty related birthday present for myself last week and it arrived in the post today! What a special birthday surprise!

What are your favourite gifts to get on your birthday?

Take care of yourself & enjoy your day where ever you are in the world!
