| Red Alert | Favourite Red Lipsticks | Lancome | MAC | Revlon | Arbonne | [Photo Heavy]

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the amazing feedback on my previous Valentine's inspired vintage makeup post. I love getting feedback from you!

I hope you all enjoyed a special Valentine's Day. Single or smitten, I hope you were showered with love. I enjoyed a delicious & relaxed dinner with Mr W at our favourite restaurant (where we went on our first date). We sat alfresco and were able to enjoy the cool evening breeze. A pleasure after the heatwave we have been experiencing in South Australia of late. I'm very much looking forward to autumn weather.

Today's post is a feature ALL about my Favourite Red Lipsticks. In fact, it was inspired by the vibrant yet deep red tones of the roses I received on Valentine's Day! As soon as I lay eyes upon my roses, my mind instantly thought - Ruby Woo! MAC Ruby Woo lipstick is a deep, cool toned matte red & one of my most favourite reds of all time.

What are your favourite red lipsticks?

Breaking into the red rouge world can be daunting......

Here are 6 simple steps to help get started:

  • Be precise - Red lipstick should never be applied casually. Unless it's an ultra sheer formula, like a Revlon Lip Butter. A top precision tip is to use a fine-tip lipstick brush. A steady hand, and patience is a must.
  • Accentuate eyes OR lips NOT both - Although it may seem a good idea at the time, you may end up looking over-done. Keep it simple by choosing eyes OR lips as the focus of your makeup look.
  • Avoid deep reds if you have thin lips - Deep shades of red accentuate the look of fine lips. Instead use a sheer red lipstick in cherry or coral red for a flattering shade. Even better, add shine and plumpness to lips with some gloss over lipstick.
  • Prevent lipstick "bleeding" - Using lip pencil prior to applying lipstick is your best chance at preventing "bleeding". A final touch of concealer around the border of your mouth will also accentuate lip colour and create a crisp line.
  • Consider the lighting - Pick a sheerer shade for daytime or the outdoors. In the evening, go bold and bright.
  • Co-ordinate your look - Complete your makeup look by dotting and blending a little of your lipstick colour on the apples of your cheeks for a youthful appearance. But remember to blend blend blend.
  • Avoid lipstick on your teeth - After lipstick application, put your finger in your mouth, form your lips around your finger, then slowly remove finger to shed excess lipstick colour.

Lancome Color Fever Avant Garde Red 151

  • Availability: Hard to find.
  • Finish: Matte
  • Color: Red
  • Undertone: Cool
  • Price: $39 AUD

"Long wearing with no discolouring, this lipstick delivers a matte finish for a more natural look. It is enriched with jojoba oil which helps the lips feel moist after hours of wear."

MAC Ruby Woo

  • Availability: Permanent MAC line
  • Finish: Matte
  • Color: Red
  • Undertone: Cool
  • Price: $36 AUD

"Ruby Woo is a blue-based red with a matte finish and nearly opaque colour coverage. It’s one of the driest lipsticks I’ve ever used. It does pull and drag slightly, but it wears beautifully. Is drying after a few hours of wear - a lip treatment will be needed after wearing this one. But sadly, I think it is worth it!" :)

Revlon Fire & Ice

  • Availability: Permanent in the Revlon Super Lustrous line
  • Finish: Creme
  • Color: Red
  • Undertone: Warm (Coral-Red)
  • Price: $21.95 (Priceline)

"A very creamy orangey- red lipstick. It is very bright and feels moisturising on my lips. I think everyone should try Fire and Ice at least once! It's so accessible, wallet-friendly, and it's fun to have a lipstick that changes colour depending on the wearer & their skin tone."

Arbonne Runway Rouge

  • Availability: Permanent Arbonne lipstick line
  • Finish: Satin
  • Color: Red
  • Undertone: Warm (coral-red)
  • Price: $37 AUD

A previous post featuring swatches and a full review can be seen via this link:

"Runway Rouge is a ravishing coral red. This lipstick can be worn sheerly, or built up to an intense colour. It has a slight sparkle that is visible when you remove the lipstick. Runways Rouge is easy to apply, moisturising and doesn't feather on the lips."

Will dare to wear red this weekend?

  2. I'm a sucker for a good red lipstick so I really enjoyed this post. I do have Ruby Woo but find it's a bit too strong for me nowadays - lately I've been wearing MAC Ladybug a lot :)
