Come with me - Instagram #6

Hi everyone,

This week's 'Come With Me' post is highly coffee infused. I really do have an unhealthy obsession with a good coffee. I find that in the cooler winter months I just want to constantly be drinking hot drinks....coffee....tea....milo....hot chocolate! Whatever I can get my hands on. Do you share the same experience in the cooler months of the year, or am I just odd? Hmmm maybe don't answer that one (O.o)

(L-R)
1. Latte for one. A mid afternoon caffeine fix whilst out shopping in the city one day
2. Got my tickets to see Pitbull in August! I'm going with a few girlfriends - it is going to be a hilariously fun night I imagine. Pre-concert-pre-drinking will be happening
3. Tea for two
4. My hangover cure, Mr Caffeine
5. Pancake flavoured shots! Yes, they were just as delicious as you are imagining  : P
6. Ummm coffee again. Switching it up with a Cappuccino. Please don't judge me......
7. Discovered my favourite new place to satisfy my always present Dumpling Desire
8. Dumplings R Us on Rundle Street in the city. Fresh decor, excellent customer service, mouth-watering food, all I need.
9. Forever waiting for a bus
10. Baking gourmet cherry tomatoes with zucchini for a late lunch
11. Revlon nail polish in Blaze - a fantastic electric red/orange pop of colour. I went through a my nails have to be orange for the whole month phase :)
12. Burning one of my favourite candles by Dusk in 'Osaka'

13. The tedious task that I always put off - cleaning my makeup brushes.
14. Who's that? I made a little Casper the ghost in my latte. I'm very mature like that.
15. My budgie Angas
16. Retro kettle
17. OPI Shatter bargains at Priceline
18. Hot freshly brewed coffee and scone toast for breakfast
19. Jasmine Green Tea with homemade Apple & Oat Muffins
20. Bok Choy & Organic Udon Noodle Stifry
21. Hazelnut Macaroon treat whilst out thrift shopping with friends
22. A little corner of my bedroom. I love this candle I got from Target - smells like a baking cake
23. Homemade Lemon Butter my mum made for me
24. A little creaming soda and cupcake break whilst at a Vintage Fair with friends

What adventures have you been on lately? I would love to hear from you :)

D.I.Y Shabby Chic (Part 1)

Hi everyone,

In a recent post entitled  D.I.Y Wicker Revival I talked about a bunch of D.I.Y projects I wanted to get started on. This is my first post since finishing quite a few of them. So here I am, I've finally completed the project and uploaded the pictures to my computer. I started this project as a novice - so it just shows that anyone can do it.

I am a great lover of the shabby-chic look to home decor as well as furnishings so I really wanted to complete a few makeovers on some furniture I have recently acquired from thrift shops. The side table below roughly dates to the 60's and is a light wood with a few different lacquer coats. I decided to not sand back the wood as this would have been a huge task to do by hand. I also thought the lacquer would give a smoother application to the paint I was using. Also, aiding towards the shabby-chic look by allowing the dark base to come through and contrast once I had scratched back the white paint.

BEFORE

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

1). A drop sheet to keep the area clean

2). Paint. I used 'Winter Chic' by British Paints. It should be readily available at your local Bunnings hardware store

3). A medium sized paint brush

4). Sandpaper for sanding any rough surfaces on the furniture

5). A plain white candle for scraping against the wood grain before applying paint coats

6). A knife for scraping back wax/paint at the end of the process.

7). Get to it - happy shabby-chic-ing! :)

AFTER

An overall perspective of the finished product. For my first shabby-chic project, I think I am happy with how it looks. It's a vast improvement from the brown wood I began with.

It is sometimes hard to know when to stop scratching away the paint for the shabby-chic look. Just remember don't rush it and make sure to stand back and get some perspective during the process. If need be, do it at different intervals in time - start it and then come back to it later. It's easier to add more but hard to undo an over-zealous hand :)

A closer look at the 'shabby chic' detailing on the paintwork.

Have you tried any D.I.Y projects recently? Please feel free to comment and/or leave a link to your own D.I.Y projects or ideas. I would love to take a look!

Take care,

Top Five - Autumn/Winter Blushers

Hi everyone,

Winter is now upon us in Australia, and so has the appearance of the richer winter colour palette in fashion, as well as makeup. I find that when winter comes around each year I often switch my makeup products; opting for a lot of cooler toned pinks, plums and browns. So, here is the first post of a regular series of my Top Five products for winter, beginning with Top Five - Autumn/Winter Blushers.

L-R Top to bottom:
  • Maybelline New York Mineral POWER Naturally Luminous Blush in Fresh Plum

  • MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Peachykeen

  • MAC Powder Blush Matte in Buff

  • e.l.f Blush in Candid Coral

  • MAC Satin Powder Blush in Well Dressed
  • Maybelline New York Mineral POWER Naturally Luminous Blush in Fresh Plum

  • MAC Sheertone Shimmer Blush in Peachykeen

  • MAC Powder Blush Matte in Buff

  • e.l.f Blush in Candid Coral

  • MAC Satin Powder Blush in Well Dressed

Above: Swatches (Top to bottom) - MAC Well Dressed, elf Candid Coral, MAC Buff, MAC Peachykeen, Maybelline Fresh Plum.

As I am quite fair in colouring, with blonde hair and blue eyes I don't go overboard with the intensity of my blushers. I usually contour with a bronzer and then apply the blusher over top of my cheekbones.

Taken in natural light / lightly swatched.

Taken with a flash/ lightly swatched.

What are your favourite colours inspired by the cooler winter months?

Birthday Beauty Bag

Hi everyone,

It was one of my good friends birthday's (who is slightly beauty-obsessed like me) recently and I was lucky enough to nominate myself :) to organise a huge birthday beauty bag on behalf of my group of friends. As you can imagine I was in my element with this task and had a fantastic time searching out fun products that I was sure my friend would love.

I got quite a few bigger ticket items to make any beauty-lover smile on their birthday. So, as I was wrapping up all the goodies I thought it might be nice to share with you what's in the birthday beauty bag! Enjoy!

I had to order numerous beauty items from online makeup stores like Beauty Bay and unfortunately some products didn't arrive in time for her birthday :( So the tip I used was to print a high-quality picture of the product onto paper and I then rolled it up and tied with ribbon. At least you can still see what you are getting then, right?! :)

Kittens, kittens, kittens! How adorable is this paper? I love the little balls of yarn drawn onto the paper.

So here are a few ideas for beauty related presents:

  • Urban Decay Naked Palette (a versatile eyeshadow palette - great value for money)
  • OPI 'Best of the Best' nail polish mini's pack
  • OPI Rapid Dry Polish Spray
  • Z Palette (excellent for storing MAC shadows)
  • Beauty Blender
  • Heat-able wheatbag for cold winter nights
  • Perfume (try to find out a perfume they already have and get one in a similar scent family)
  • Sigma Makeup Brushes

ALSO:
  • Gift packs- these are a great way for people to try new products they might not pick up themselves &
  • Mini's- mini's (gift with purchase size products) from different brands also allow you to try numerous products in the one gift pack from a brand.
  • Gift cards: Find out some stores that your friend loves and get them in-store credit or a gift-card.

What other great gift-giving ideas do you have? Are some of these items on your birthday wishlist? :)

NOTD - Titanium Snow Blast

Hi everyone,

Here's a quick Nail Of The Day post using- L’Oreal PARIS ‘Resist & Shine – Titanium’ in 737 &
Sally Hansen ‘Crackle Overcoat’ in 01 Snow Blast.

                                                  L’Oreal PARIS ‘Resist & Shine – Titanium

Sally Hansen ‘Crackle Overcoat’ in 01 Snow Blast

After layering the Sally Hansen Crackle overcoat on top of the near black polish these are the results:

I've found Sally Hansen Crackle polishes do a good job at giving the crackle effect. Although, I have found their consistency in comparison to OPI Shatter polishes quite thick and with a longer drying time overall.

Have you tried any of the Crackle effect polishes?

Take care,

Wishlist Wednesday #1

Hi everyone,

I love reading 'Wishlist Wednesday' style posts from my favourite bloggers and thought I might try my hand at it. So here are some products / objects I'm currently lusting after. Although, obtaining some of these items might be a pipe-dream, I'm hoping some will come to fruition.

Oh well, it's nice to dream isn't it?
I seem to be obsessed with bow rings at the moment! I found one exactly like this in Lovisa (an accessories shop in Australia) but they didn't have it in my size so the hunt continues.....
OPI Rainbow Connection from the Limited Edition Muppets Collection. Isn't it just mesmerizing?!

Maybelline New York Color Tattoo in 'Tough as Taupe'. They haven't released these here in Australia as of yet, but there is always ebay. I haven't given in to buying this product yet, but it's only a matter of time. I've heard the Color Tattoos described as a Paint Pot type of product. I love the fact that this colour is a matte taupe colour. Perfect for a cooler winter eye look, with rich browns.
A hair product that smells like Lemon Meringue - I need this in my life!
My favourite scent of ALL TIME. I think this perfume is greatly under rated in the perfume world. I purchased this on a whim when I was initially attracted by the stunning packaging, I smelt it, and I was sold. I always get compliments when I wear this scent and it's one of my must have repurchase items. It's described as a sensual and feminine scent with notes of licorice flower, amarena, violet, vanilla, and iris.

Silk and skulls - I've seen this in black and also the white. I think this is just precious :)

A friend of mine on Instagram recently posted a picture of this clock on her page and I immediately had to ask where bought this. This vintage style flip clock is just so cute. It definitely reminds me of something that would sit on Mad Men's Don Draper's beside cupboard. It is available throughout Australia at Typo and retails for AUD $19.95. I can't decide between the white or the turquoise though - what do you think?

What's on your wishlist?
