Review - Chanel Peridot Le Vernis Nail Lacquer

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased my first Chanel nail polish!!!!!!

That's right I caved and now I have a new star in my nail polish collection :) I found this polish on sale and was lucky enough to get it for half price, $15. Less than the cost of an OPI nail polish here in Australia, so how could I resist, right?

To redeem myself from this self-indulgent deed, I also purchased one for my mum for Mothers Day! The peridot stone is actually my birthstone as my birthday falls in August.....so I took this as a sign.

The Peridot Le Vernis is from Chanel's Fall 2011 release so it's perfect for us Australian's as we are heading into the autumn/ winter (fall) months. Before my purchase I did a little bit of online investigating as I'm a complete novice when it comes to Chanel nail lacquer. I read that it was one of the most talked about items from Chanel's fall collection, and when I first layed eyes upon it I thought it was absolutely stunning.

Depending on the angle you view it from, it presents as a murky greenish-gold duochrome flanked by edges of indigo and teal to an almost fresh green with an edge of antique gold and indigo.

Peridot once applied on my nails has an amazing colour payoff. I only applied one coat initially, and honestly that is all you need. I suggest a good base coat as I forgot to apply this and ended up applying a second coat of Peridot to give the nail a smoother appearance. I'm not aware of a completely dupe-able colour on the market to rival this one due to the subtle duochrome. If you are desperately wanting a similar colour China Glaze 'Peace on Earth' is a deeper green version, and China Glaze 'Zombie Nest' / Orly 'It's Not Rocket Science' offer a more murky green quality mixed with gold and duochrome.

I got around a week’s worth of wear with minor tip wear with this polish. It wears well overall, although after 1 week I did slightly chip the nail resulting in the whole nail polish face coming off in one piece. Although, I am putting this down to me not applying a base or top coat in the application process.

RATINGS

Pigmentation: 10/10
Texture:          9/10
Longevity:       9/10
Application:    9/10
Packaging:     10/10

Overall, I feel privileged to have this little darling  in my collection :) If you only splurge on polish when you find unique colors, Peridot might be one that's worth the splurge. It applies well, has excellent colour payoff, adorable packaging, and the overall effect of the duochrome gives a unique look.

Do you own a similiar nail polish? Which colour/brand name is your weakness?

x.k.

    1. Hi Carmen, thanks for the comment! I know hey - what a bargain :) I bought it from Ozsale.com.au when they had a Chanel sale a little while ago. They only had a few items, this being the only nail polish. It sure is a unique colour, you're right. I love it!
